Elizabeth Venuti

Dr. Elizabeth K. Venuti joined the faculty of Hofstra University in 1999. Since joining Hofstra, Dr. Venuti has achieved a remarkable record of teaching and service to Hofstra University and the Long Island community. She received the Hofstra University Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award in 2006 and 2014, and the Frank G. Zarb School of Business Dean’s Service Award in 2008. She has twice received the Beta Alpha Psi, Delti Pi Chapter, Faculty Award for “Outstanding Dedication to the Students.” In addition, she has served as Chair the Department of Accounting, Taxation and Legal Studies in Business, Chair of the Hofstra University Senate Planning & Budget Committee, and as Senior Associate Dean of the Zarb School of Business. 

Dr. Venuti is a member of the Board of Directors of St. Francis Hospital Foundation, one of the member boards of Catholic Health Services of Long Island, and MercyFirst, one of New York’s leading not-for-profit human service agencies. She also serves on several committees of the Grenville Baker Boys and Girls Clubs of Locust Valley. 

Dr. Venuti is a member of the New York State Society of CPAs, and has served on several committees, including the International Accounting & Auditing Committee and the Cooperation with Educational Institutions Committee, for both of which she served as chair. In 2010, she received the NYSSCPA Samuel B. Traum Achievement Award, for “Dedication, Leadership and Mentoring within the Accounting Profession.” 

Dr. Venuti's research interests include financial reporting and auditing in both the United States and internationally. She is very focused on the convergence of financial reporting and auditing practices worldwide. Dr. Venuti has presented papers at the American Accounting Association's annual, midyear and section meetings and has had articles published a variety of peer-reviewed journals. For ten years, she served on the editorial board of The CPA Journal. She has served as a reviewer for academic and professional journals, conferences and grant applications. 

Dr. Venuti received a B.S. in business management and marketing from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in accounting from Columbia University's Graduate School of Business. She is a certified public accountant in New York State. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Accounting Association. 

Prior to joining Hofstra University, Dr. Venuti served as an assistant professor of accounting at Bernard M. Baruch College of The City University of New York. Prior to commencing her doctoral studies at Columbia, Dr. Venuti worked as an audit professional with Price Waterhouse in New York City.
