Like any elected official, members of California's State Board of Equalization receive campaign contributions. While SBOE members are subject to strict limits on campaign contributions, an exception exists for contributions from political action committees, making it possible for members to receive thousands of dollars each year from taxpayers or their representatives who are also seeking resolution of their tax disputes with the state.
