Plans to reconfigure an idle assembly plant into an alternative energy park received a boost as Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm signed a bill providing tax credits for the manufacture of photovoltaic systems. The creation of the park relies heavily on the passage of bills granting tax incentives to a battery plant and a solar-panel manufacturing facility, which have agreed to buy the plant.
