Former SEC Chair Gets Morgan Stanley Board Seat

Former SEC and CFTC Chairman Mary Schapiro will join Morgan Stanley’s board of directors in the coming days, the bank said June 26.

Schapiro’s election to the board is effective July 1. She currently is vice chairman of Promontory Financial Group’s advisory board and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board. She also sits on the boards of CVS Health Corp. and The London Stock Exchange Group.

Schapiro led the Securities and Exchange Commission from 2009 to 2012 as a President Barack Obama appointee and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission from 1994 to 1996 as a President Bill Clinton appointee. She was the chairman and chief executive officer of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority from 2006 to 2008, as well.
