Brett R. Friedman is a partner in the health care practice group of Ropes & Gray’s corporate department, practicing in the firm’s New York office. Mr. Friedman has significant experience in advising clients on a variety of complex transactional, enforcement and regulatory matters within the health care industry. His clients have included hospitals, managed care plans, pharmacy and dental benefit managers, pharmaceutical and device manufacturers and community-based providers of care for individuals with mental illness and developmental disabilities.

Mr. Friedman has particular experience counseling both payer and provider clients in responding to the transition to accountable care and value-based payment, including the development of provider risk-bearing organizations, Accountable Care Organizations, independent practice associations, and other integrated delivery networks. He also routinely advises clients in the course of government investigations, audits, and self-disclosures concerning potential violations of Medicare and Medicaid regulatory authorities and health care fraud and abuse laws. In addition, Mr. Friedman’s transactional experience includes advising private equity, for-profit and tax-exempt clients regarding health care due diligence, and regulatory and reimbursement issues.

Mr. Friedman received his JD with High Honors from The George Washington University Law School, where he was Order of the Coif and Articles Editor of The George Washington University Law Review. He received his BA, summa cum laude, from Brandeis University, Phi Beta Kappa. He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association’s Advisory Opinion Task Force and is admitted to practice in New York.

Mr. Friedman is a co-author of Bloomberg BNA’s Health Law & Business Series Portfolio 2100, Health Care Mergers and Acquisitions: The Transactional Perspective, 2nd edition.
