Bloomberg BNA Estates, Gifts and Trust Managing Editor Kathy Hanson and Legal Editor Joseph Ecuyer will provide an overview of the key estate planning developments in 2013 while analyzing how these developments may impact your clients in 2014.

This forward-looking discussion will review the topics of interest gathered throughout 2013 from the editors’ attendance at recent tax conferences, from their editorial insights in Bloomberg BNA’s estate-related publications, and from amassing critical case law. The panel will discuss application of the section 1411 net investment income tax to trusts and estates; offer guidance on unified credit portability and the increased exclusion amount; and examine planning for same-sex married couples in light of Windsor.

Kathy Hanson, J.D., LL.M., is the managing editor of the Estates, Gifts and Trusts group at Bloomberg BNA and has been with the company since 2001. Before joining Bloomberg BNA, Ms. Hanson was in private practice in Maryland and in Florida. Ms. Hanson received her B.S. (in Accounting) from the University of Alabama, her J.D. from Duke University School of Law, and her LL.M. (in Taxation) from Georgetown University Law Center.


JOSEPH J. ECUYER, J.D., LL.M., BLOOMBERG BNA

Joseph J. Ecuyer, J.D., LL.M., is a legal editor in the Estates, Gifts and Trust group of Bloomberg BNA Tax Management in Arlington, Virginia. Prior to working for Bloomberg BNA, Mr. Ecuyer was in private practice in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he practiced in the areas of income taxation, estate taxation, IRS representation, and corporate and business law. Before that, Mr. Ecuyer was a law clerk for the Honorable David Laro of the United States Tax Court. Mr. Ecuyer received his B.S. (in Accounting) from Louisiana State University, his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, and his LL.M. (in Taxation) from New York University School of Law.
