Darren Hunter is a Partner and member of the energy, environmental, health and safety, and litigation practice groups at Rooney Rippie & Ratnaswamy LLP (R3). Mr. Hunter's practice focuses on counseling and defending natural gas transmission, distribution and storage companies in a wide variety of matters, including pipeline safety, pipeline security, regulatory compliance, governmental investigations, major incident investigations, operating agreements, and property, storage and mineral rights issues. Mr. Hunter also represents the natural gas industry and other energy and manufacturing companies in all facets of environmental, health and safety law, with a strong emphasis on OSHA compliance and defense. Mr. Hunter also has a general trial and appellate litigation practice.
Prior to joining R3, Mr. Hunter was a partner and practiced in the energy and natural resources practice group of a major international law firm. In his 25 years of practice, Mr. Hunter has served as lead counsel in many high profile matters. Many of his cases have gone to mediation, arbitration, trial and appeal. He has taken over 1,000 depositions involving all types of factual and legal issues, including natural gas explosions and fires, propane explosions, carbon monoxide incidents, electric arc flash incidents, environmental releases, exceedances and excursions, mineral and property rights, employment disputes, and many other issues. In these matters, Mr. Hunter has represented major natural gas transmission companies, natural gas distribution companies, power companies, manufacturing companies, steel companies and trade groups.
He served as a Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Thomas J. Moran, Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court. He received his B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his J.D. from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law.
Mr. Hunter is the author of Bloomberg BNA Corporate Practice Portfolio Series No. 9-5th, Practice under the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
