IRS is trying to douse any hope that some 340,000 tax preparers who have yet to take a mandatory competency test for 2013 will be given an extended deadline to do so. At a recent meeting with stakeholders, Carol Campbell, director of the IRS Return Preparer Office, tells stakeholders the Dec. 31, 2013, deadline for passing the test will not be extended, even if not all of the 340,000 preparers are able to find a seat with the testing company giving the test. The latest reminder comes in a news release urging preparers to sign up for their annual preparer tax identification numbers.
