Joel McDonald graduated summa cum laude from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He obtained his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he served on the Editorial Board of the Virginia Law Review and was a member of the Order of the Coif.

Prior to joining Industrial Investors Group (IIG), Joel was in private practice in Washington D. C., New York, Moscow and London, advising clients on international taxation, investment fund creation and international JVs.

From 1994 to 1997 Joel was the main foreign advisor to the Russian Government on tax reform.

He later became a partner at the Salans law firm, where he was chairman of the Taxation Committee and a member of the firm’s Board.

Since 2006, Joel has been the General Counsel of the Industrial Investors Group and the Managing Director of Industrial Investors Capital Management Limited in London.
