John E. McGrady, III, Esq., is a Shareholder of Buchanan, Ingersoll, & Rooney PC and co-chair of its Executive Compensation Practice Group in Pittsburgh. Mr. McGrady advises on executive compensation and employee benefit plan matters, including the design and implementation of equity-based incentive plans, tax-qualified retirement plans, ESOPs, executive employment agreements, change-in-control retention programs, Section 409A nonqualified deferred compensation arrangements, SERPs, phantom stock plans, LTIPs, severance plans, workforce reduction programs, and health and welfare benefit arrangements. Mr. McGrady also counsels clients on executive compensation and employee benefit issues arising in connection with corporate transactions, including joint ventures and mergers & acquisitions, and represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, and state and local taxing jurisdictions. Mr. McGrady is the author of Tax Management Portfolio 364, Qualified Retirement Plans —Mergers, Acquisitions and Other Corporate Transactions and is a contributing author to various publications such as Tax Management Compensation Planning Journal. Mr. McGrady was selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2019. Prior to entering the legal profession, Mr. McGrady practiced as a certified public accountant with the accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche in Washington, D.C. Mr. McGrady holds a Juris Doctor from Duquesne University, and a Bachelor of Science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Mr. McGrady is a member of the Pennsylvania state bar.
