José M. Jara Esq.


José M. Jara, Esq. José is a partner and the ERISA and Employee Benefits Practice Group Leader at CKR Law, LLP, in New York. He has over 20 years of employment, ERISA, and employee benefits law experience, ranging from governmental compliance, fiduciary liability insurance, to the application of ERISA’s fiduciary standards and prohibited transaction provisions. José has extensive experience resolving issues for corporate plan sponsors and multiemployer plans before the U.S. Department of Labor, Employee Benefits Security Administration, where he was formerly a senior pension law specialist and investigator. He also advises his clients on a myriad of labor and employment issues, including, but not limited to: discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, restrictive covenants, exempt and non-exempt employees, over-time, and sexual harassment. He is currently Vice-Chair of the Fiduciary Responsibility, Administration, and Litigation Committee of the American Bar Association, Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law. He is co-author of ERISA's Fiduciary Duties: Meeting the 'Reasonable' Contract and Fee Requirements, published by Bloomberg Law. 

José holds a Bachelor of Science from Manhattan College, a Juris Doctor from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, and a Master of Laws and Certificate in Employee Benefits Law from Georgetown Law Center. He is a member of the New Jersey Bar.
