Modinat “Abby” Kotun is a Member of Winstead’s Labor, Employment & Immigration Practice Group.  She applies her problem solving skills from her past career as a chemical engineer to assist clients in a wide variety of labor and employment matters.  Such matters include discrimination and harassment charges and lawsuits, ADA and FMLA cases, wage and hour cases, and OSHA inspections.  Abby regularly defends clients in federal and state court proceedings and before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She regularly drafts various litigation and employment related documents including federal and state court pleadings, separation and release agreements, injunction orders, and non-competition agreements. 

Before starting her legal career, Abby worked as a process engineer, pipeline project manager and business analyst for a major energy company. During law school, she interned for a federal bankruptcy judge, served as the Internet Publishing Editor of the Houston Law Review and volunteered as a student attorney in the University of Houston Law Center civil and immigration clinics where she handled cases involving divorce, custody, probate, guardianship, withholding of removal, and family immigration, and special immigrant juvenile issues.
