Although mega deals garner the most attention, the number announced over the last four years is relatively small compared to large and mid-market deals, according to Bloomberg Law data.
For example, in the most recent two quarters of 2016, 146 large market ($1 billion - $10 billion) deals were announced—more than in any two-quarter period since the beginning of 2012.
By contrast, of the 878 deals $100 million or greater announced this year that have not been terminated or withdrawn, 76.1 percent are valued at $1 billion or less while only 2.6 percent are valued at more than $10 billion.
