Louisiana Coast Awash in Erosion, State Racing Against Time for Repairs


Louisiana is losing its fight over coastal erosion, reports Bloomberg BNA correspondent Nushin Huq.

Though the state got a boost from the outgoing Obama administration to speed up restoration, Louisiana learned that it will be at least another five years before construction can begin because of permit reviews.   

The longer the state waits, the more expensive restoration will be, officials tell Nushin in the story.

Models of sea level rise show that 50 years from now, Louisiana could lose up to 4,000 square miles of coast, the state’s draft 2017 coastal master plan said. That is double what scientists predicted just five years ago.
