Greg McGillivary is a Senior Partner at McGillivary Steel Elkin LLP and has represented unions and employees for over 25 years. In addition to representing unions in traditional labor relations on an ongoing basis, Mr. McGillvary specializes in state and federal wage and hour litigation, and federal employee pay litigation involving claims for overtime pay, the minimum wage or employers' simple failure to pay monies owed to workers.
Mr. McGillvary has successfully represented thousands of workers in Fair Labor Standards Act and state overtime and wage cases enforcing state and federal pay statutes involving both private sector and public sector employees. Mr. McGillvary frequently represents employees in cases in litigation involving substantial damages at issue. Mr. McGillvary was lead counsel in an overtime case on behalf of air traffic controllers in which he recently received a judgment of over $50 million. He was also lead counsel in a case on behalf of police sergeants that settled for $20 million plus attorneys' fees. Mr. McGillivary has served as lead counsel representing workers in numerous other cases against private companies, local governments and the federal government involving thousands of employees.
Mr. McGillivary also handles traditional labor relations matters on behalf of unions and employees in court, arbitrations and before administrative entities in matters such as employee discipline, collective bargaining, unfair labor practices, and negotiability and grievability appeals. McGillivary Steel Elkin LLP has special expertise in representing fire fighter, police, law enforcement agents and correctional officers, as well as all types of federal employees.
Mr. McGillivary is also a frequent speaker and writer on labor and wage and hour topics. Mr. McGillivary served for six years as the Union Co-Chair for the Federal Standards Legislative Committee of the American Bar Association.
He received his B.A. from Northwestern University and his J.D. from the University of Oregon.
