Michael H. Bernstein is a partner in the New York office of Robinson & Cole LLP. He concentrates his practice in the areas of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and managed care litigation; life, health, and disability benefit litigation; and related insurance coverage issues. He is a member of the firm’s Business Litigation Group and its Health and Benefits Litigation Team.

 

After obtaining his B.A., cum laude, at the State University of New York at Albany, Mr. Bernstein earned his J.D. at Pace University School of Law. Mr. Bernstein is admitted to practice in the state courts of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the District of New Jersey, the District of Connecticut and the Northern, Western, Eastern, and Southern Districts of New York, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the First, Second, Third, Fourth, Tenth, and Eleventh Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court.

 

He is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, a preeminent supporter of scholarly sociolegal research, and a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the International Association of Defense Counsel, the American Health Lawyers Association, and the Defense Research Institute. Mr. Bernstein is a prolific writer on topics concerning ERISA, employee benefits, and legal issues facing the health care industry. He is also frequently called upon to be a speaker or panelist at legal and health care industry events.

 

Mr. Bernstein is the Editor-in-Chief of the ABA/Bloomberg Law treatise Managed Care Litigation.
