Nehla Basawaiya

Nehla Basawaiya gained her LL.B. degree from the University of Tasmania, Australia in 1995 and her LL.M. in Commercial Law from the University of Melbourne, Australia in 2001. She also holds a degree in Commerce from the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

Ms. Basawaiya worked for Coopers & Lybrand’s Fiji office in the early 1990s before being admitted to the High Court of Fiji in 1996. She worked in the office of Fiji’s Attorney General for many years, handling a wide range of commercial and litigation work, including constitutional and administrative law matters, personal injury and commercial contracts.

Having joined Munro Leys in 2004, Ms. Basawaiya works primarily in the Commercial group providing general advice on commercial, aviation, property and taxation issues.

Nehla held the office as Vice-President of the Fiji Law Society in 2004. She is a member of the executive committee of the Fiji New Zealand Business Council. She is also a mediator accredited by the Australian Centre for Dispute Assessment & Resolution.
