Joseph G. Petrosinelli will take over as Chair of Williams & Connolly after Dane Butswinkas was hired by Tesla to be general counsel, a firm spokesperson told Bloomberg Law Dec. 7.
Petrosinelli is co-chair of the law firm’s Products Liability and Criminal Defense and Government Investigations practice groups and a member of the firm’s executive committee. He’s been with Williams & Connolly since 1991, after graduating from Georgetown Law in Washington.
“Joe is a stalwart at the firm. He is a skilled trial lawyer, devoted to our clients, and a real leader. His selection was unanimous,” said Bob Barnett, a partner at Williams & Connolly.
Petrosinelli has represented companies across numerous industries in litigation and arbitration. His clients have included Pfizer, Bayer A.G., Opportunity Finance LLC, and G.E.
He was named 2018 Product Liability Attorney of the Year by Benchmark Litigation and was among its 2018 Top 100 Trial Lawyers in America.
Along with Williams & Connolly attorneys Robert B. Barnett and Paul Mogin, Petrosinelli successfully represented their client before the U.S. Supreme Court in a federal mail fraud case in Cleveland v. U.S in 2000.
With 280 attorneys in one location in Washington, Williams & Connolly was ranked the most selective law firm in the U.S. for 2019.
Jeffrey Lowe, head of Major, Lindsey & Africa’s law firm practice called Williams & Connolly “one of the nation’s elite litigation firms.”
Williams & Connolly is among “the bluest of the blue-chip firms, with a reputation for excellence,” Lowe told Bloomberg Law in an email.
