PODCAST: Is This the End for the Paris Agreement?

It's official: President Donald Trump will withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate accord.

In a speech in the White House’s Rose Garden, Trump said he would back out of the landmark 2015 agreement, but would also be open to reentering it later.

“We’ll start to negotiate and we’ll see if we can make a deal that’s fair,” the president said. “If we can, that’s great; if we can’t, that’s fine.”

So what does all this mean?

For the latest episode of our environmental policy podcast, Parts Per Billion, we spoke with international climate reporter Eric Lyman just moments after Trump finished his speech.

Lyman talked about whether Trump’s hotly anticipated decision means the Paris agreement is doomed and also about how the world's other major powers will react.
