A highway and transit funding bill should move through the Senate Finance Committee before the July 4 recess, said the panel's chairman, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.).

Calling his plan “ambitious” after a committee meeting to discuss about a dozen options to finance the depleted Highway Trust Fund, Wyden told reporters the timeline would allow lawmakers to find some sort of funding solution before Congress leaves for its month-long August recess.
“The goal is to be able to get a bill out of committee by the end of this work period,” he said. “It's going to be a big lift and we're going to do it when it's bipartisan, so you might need a little bit more time, so be it, but that's going to be the goal.”
