Senior Democrats Urge No Recess Until Flint Addressed

Senior Democrats urged Republicans today to cancel an upcoming congressional recess until the Flint, Mich., water crisis and other pressing needs are addressed.

In a press conference on the steps of the Capitol, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other party members said the Republican-led Congress needs to “do your job” and act on issues that have been pending for anywhere from weeks to months.

These include aid to Flint in recovering from its lead-in-water crisis, the nomination of Judge Merrick Garland and addressing Zika virus issues.

“On issue after issue, the American people are telling Republicans, ‘do your job,' but Republicans refuse,” Pelosi said. “We have work to do. Stay here. Do your job.”
