Ms. Shields is a Shareholder in the Long Island office of Jackson Lewis P.C. and is the co-chair of SHRM-LI’s Professional Development Committee.  Since joining Jackson Lewis in June 2005, Ana has practiced exclusively in employment law.

 

Ana has been involved in proceedings before federal and state courts, the American Arbitration Association and administrative agencies.  She successfully has argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.  She successfully has prepared pleadings, motions, memoranda, position statements and legal opinions related to employment law issues such as employment discrimination, harassment, retaliation, whistle-blowing claims and restrictive covenants.  She has worked closely with clients through all phases of litigation including investigations, preparations for depositions, attending depositions and trials.  Ana also has advised clients on compliance with various state and federal laws affecting the workplace, including Title VII, Family and Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Fair Labor Standards Act and New York State and City laws.   In addition, she is a firm resource for Electronic Discovery issues.

 

Ana recently was named to Long Island Business News Top 40 Under 40 Class of 2015.  In 2012, Ana was recognized by the Long Island Business News Who’s Who In Intellectual Property & Labor Law, a compilation of profiles of the region’s top business leaders.   Also, she was recognized by the Long Island Business News in 2010 on its Human Resources: Ones to Watch list.  She is a graduate of Harvard University (A.B., cum laude, 2000), and St. John’s University School of Law (J.D. 2003), where she was a published member of the New York International Law Review. She also was the recipient of the 2003 American Bar Association/Bureau of National Affairs Award for Excellence in Labor and Employment Law and received CALI Awards for Excellence in Employment Law, Advanced Labor Law, and Jurisprudence. 

 

Ana is admitted to practice in New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
