Companies seeking to move operations to the cloud should be aware of an array of potential tax issues, practitioners tell BNA. The cloud has many definitions but, in general, it is an arena where various information technology capabilities are provided as a service, using internet technologies, to multiple external customers. A flurry of issues surround the international tax impact of operating in the cloud, with governments starting to consider the many tax questions raised by those operations. Many center on whether the cloud truly represents a new technology business model with differing tax consequences, practitioners say.
