Taiwan Launches eTax Portal for Cross-Border Electronic Services

As of May 1, 2017, foreign providers of electronic services to Taiwanese retail customers must generally register and account for Taiwanese VAT. (Previously, their supplies were taxed to the customer under the reverse charge mechanism.)

To facilitate the new regime, the Ministry of Finance of Taiwan has launched an eTax Portal for Cross Border Electronic Services, available in English. Foreign providers may register and pay VAT, and file VAT returns using the portal.
