Fisher Phillips launched an autonomous vehicles practice group that will focus on the technology’s impact in the workplace.

The use of self-driving vehicles “really is going to change the way employers interact with employees,” practice group leader Michael Greco told Bloomberg Law. It potentially touches many areas of law, he said, such as labor, disabilities, and workplace safety.

Labor concerns could surface if companies try to lay off drivers, so unionized companies must think about how they’ll approach their collective bargaining agreements, Greco said.

Disability law could come into play if employees whose jobs require them to drive request an autonomous vehicle as an accommodation, he said. Workplace safety issues arise if an employee gets hurt, Greco said.

Fisher Phillips’ AV practice group already has 25 lawyers, he said.
